Aubrey Plaza’s Separation from Jeff Baena Confirmed in Medical Report
A medical examiner’s report has confirmed that Aubrey Plaza and her husband, Jeff Baena, had been separated for four months before Baena’s tragic death. The couple, who married in 2021, had reportedly been experiencing marital difficulties leading up to his passing on January 3, 2025.
Baena, a 47-year-old filmmaker known for directing Life After Beth, died by suicide. His passing was described as an “unimaginable tragedy” by Plaza and his family.
Plaza’s Welfare Check and Baena’s Final Months
Documents from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner reveal that Plaza and Baena separated in September 2024. A month later, Baena made concerning remarks to Plaza, prompting her to call a friend to check on him.
Following that welfare check, Baena began attending therapy. Despite this, he continued to struggle, and Plaza last received a text from him on the morning of his death at 10:36 a.m. ET. Later that day, his dog walker discovered his body at his residence.
