Justin Timberlake was arrested and charged with drunken driving on Tuesday morning in a community in New York’s Hamptons. The police claimed he jumped a stop sign and drove out of his lane.
According to a court complaint, the boy band singer-turned-solo artist and actor was driving a 2025 BMW in Sag Harbor. And at 12:30 a.m. an officer pulled him over and discovered he was inebriated.
“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath. He was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot. And he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” according to the court papers.
According to the records, Timberlake, 43, informed the officer he was on his way home with some buddies after drinking one martini. After being caught and transferred to a police station in adjacent East Hampton, he rejected a breath test, according to court documents. Which described his employment as “professional” and stated that he is “self-employed.”
Following his arraignment in Sag Harbor, the ten-time Grammy winner was freed without bond later Tuesday morning. He was charged with a misdemeanor for driving while drunk. And his next court appearance is set on July 26, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
Edward Burke Jr., a local lawyer representing Justin Timberlake, declined to comment on Tuesday other than to clarify that the celebrity is not required to attend in person for his next court hearing. Timberlake’s California-based agents did not respond to several requests for comment Tuesday.
The arrest drew a continuous stream of curious visitors to the village’s charming Main Street, with many taking photographs in front of the brick municipal building throughout the day.
