Wizards of Waverly Place sequel confirmed

A sequel series to Wizards of Waverly Place has been confirmed, with Selena Gomez returning in the premiere episode.

The Disney series starred Alex Russo (Gomez), who trains in magic with siblings Justin (David Henrie) and Max (Jake T Austin), with the boys trying to become the next family wizard.

The series concluded in 2012 after four seasons and 106 episodes. With a single special, The Wizards Return: Alex vs Alex, published in 2013. Although Deadline reports that a successor series is now in development.

What’s the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel about?

After Justin leaves his wizarding past behind, the story will follow him as an adult. Starting as he builds a life with his wife and two boys.

In order to protect the future of the wizarding world, Justin is compelled to face his past after an event at WizTech. And the arrival of a young wizard in need of training.

Henrie will, of course, return to his usual position. While Gomez will make a cameo appearance in the premiere episode as Alex. Whether Austin, David DeLuise, and Maria Canals-Barrera will return to their respective parts as the other Russo family members is yet uncertain.

Executive producers Henrie and Gomez are joined by Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos in the new cast. In addition to producing, Race to Witch Mountain and Playing with Fire director Andy Fickman will helm the series.

Gomez has starred as Mabel Mora in Only Murders in the Building since her breakthrough performance on Wizards of Waverly Place. The show was extended for a fourth season in the latter part of 2023.

There is presently no release date for the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series.
