7 people were shot after gunshots broke out during a pop-up party in Massachusetts.
Seven people were shot and seriously wounded. And another got hurt while fleeing as gunfire broke at a big party of young individuals in Methuen, Massachusetts, officials said Sunday.
The shooting occurred just before 2 a.m., when hundreds of people gathered for a social media-organized pop-up party, according to officials during a press briefing. Officials reported the victims’ ages ranged from 17 to 22. Both of them were in critical condition.
“This is yet another tragic case of gun violence that brings us together this morning,” Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker stated. “It’s pretty amazing that with the amount of ballistics evidence that we’re recovering that more people weren’t hurt.” Methuen is approximately 28 miles (45 kilometers) north of Boston, near the border with New Hampshire.
Authorities declined to provide the number of suspects. There have been no arrests and no firearms found.
Metheun Police Chief Scott McNamara stated that officials had been watching other “hot spots” where such meetings often occur. But Sunday’s incident occurred in a new area and was the first to become violent.
“Usually these meet-ups consist of very loud music, disorderly conduct, sometimes drinking,” he stated. “We attempt to discourage it whenever possible, and we’ve had some success in doing so. Unfortunately, we had a horrible occurrence here in Metheun last night.
