What do we know about Trump assassination attempt?
According to officials, a shooter tried to kill Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Sunday at his Palm Beach, Florida, golf property. Official law enforcement organizations have not yet verified the identify of the accused culprit. Though, Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old Hawaiian, has been recognized by many news sites, including CNN and Fox News.
This is all we now know about the potential assassin of Trump.
Gun Spotted in Bushes at Trump Golf Course
The Trump assassination attempt occurred while he was being accompanied by Secret Service officials on the course. While guarding the openings ahead of Trump, one agent observed a rifle barrel sticking out of shrubbery near the boundary.
After being hit by at least four bullets from several agents, the shooter dropped his AK-47-style rifle, two bags, and a GoPro camera before driving off in a black Nissan. Witnesses acting quickly were able to take a picture of the suspect’s vehicle and license plate, which they immediately sent to the police. On Interstate 95, Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies quickly captured the shooter.
Social Media Posts and Ukraine Connection
Not long after the event, Ryan Wesley Routh was connected to profiles on X (previously Twitter), Facebook, and LinkedIn. These accounts were quickly disabled, but not before they made pro-Ukrainian views evident.
“I would want to acquire a rocket from you… and equip it with a bomb targeting Putin’s Black Sea home bunker,” Routh stated in an April 21 X post addressed to Elon Musk. His interest in Ukraine and its conflict with Russia dates back to 2022, when he is said to have visited the city, despite the fact that his age and inexperience in the military prevented him from being drafted into the military.
Routh has previously been interviewed by The New York Times for an piece about American volunteers helping Ukraine in 2023. His love for Ukraine was steadfast, but he had conflicting opinions on American politics. On social media, Routh expressed her support for Bernie Sanders and denounced President Joe Biden as well as Trump, saying that the next elections will jeopardize democracy.
Family Reacts to the Allegations
Following the failed Trump assassination attempt, Routh’s family has been under intense scrutiny. When contacted by Reuters, his son Adam, who works at a hardware shop in Hawaii, expressed shock, stating, “It’s not anything I believe my father would do.” In a brief statement to CNN, another son, Oran, called Routh “a kind and caring father” and expressed the hope that the incident was being exaggerated.
As the inquiry progresses, more about Routh’s participation keeps coming to light. The FBI has not yet issued an official comment on the matter.
