On this day in history, India became a sovereign republic when its constitution was formally adopted.
Held in the nation’s capital, Delhi, the procession passed down the Kartavya Path (Path of Duty), previously known as the Rajpath, an avenue that links several significant sites in the city. It ended around 7km (4.3 miles) distant at the Red Fort, a 7th-century monument.
