When Are AP Scores Released?
High school students across the country can check their Advanced Placement results starting Monday, July 7. The College Board, the nonprofit behind AP courses and exams, will notify students by email as their scores become available.
AP exams, taken every May, assess mastery of first-year college–level coursework in 36 subject areas. Scores range from 1 to 5, with higher marks often earning students university credit and allowing them to skip introductory courses.
How to Access Your 2025 AP Scores
- Email notification: You’ll receive an alert when your AP score is posted.

Growth of AP Participation and College Credit Trends
In the past decade, the number of U.S. public high school graduates taking AP Exams rose by 65%. Over 1 million students now take AP courses each year, and half of four‑year college freshmen arrive with at least some AP credit. Two out of three AP exam-takers earn college credit, a boost for both students and institutions.
Despite this growth, acceptance of AP credits varies:
- 86% of top 153 U.S. colleges place restrictions on AP credit, according to Paul Weinstein Jr. of the Progressive Policy Institute.
- Only 25% accept credits in all subject areas, while many cap the total credits or require higher scores for certain subjects.
These policies can cost students hundreds of millions in potential tuition savings when credits are declined or limited.
History of the AP Program and the College Board
The AP program began in 1952 after preparatory schools—Lawrenceville, Phillips Academy, and Phillips Exeter—teamed with Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. Their study recommended that high school seniors tackle college‑level material and earn credit based on exam performance. This led to the creation of the College Board’s AP program, which continues to expand access to higher education today.
Michigan Enrollment Snapshot
Michigan alone reports 1,427,386 high school students, many of whom participate in AP courses. With AP scores release date 2025 confirmed, these students can now plan their college course loads and credit transfers for the fall semester.
